The Battle of Britain is the term used to refer to the aerial conflict which took place during the Summer of 1940 between Germany's Luftwaffe and Great Britain's Royal Air Force. The main objective for the Luftwaffe was to destroy Great Britain's air defences so that a German invasion could proceed. Fighter Command of The Royal Air Force successfully engaged Luftwaffe aircraft to prevent this taking place whilst both Bomber Command and Coastal Command undertook raids during the Battle which hampered German activity.
