Why is the Battle of Britain called the Battle of Britain?
The phrase "Battle of Britain" was first used by the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, in a speech given to the House of Commons on 18 June 1940.

With German forces occupying France, Belgium, Holland and Norway it became evident that their attention would turn to Great Britain. The Battle of France had ended and the Battle of Britain would begin.
