Did any fighting in the Battle of Britain take place over the Continent?

RAF pilots scrambling to their aircraft

Most of the fighting took place over Britain and the Channel, but RAF fighters occasionally pursued retreating enemy aircraft across the Channel. Coastal Command's aircraft patrolled the Channel, watching for signs of the invasion, and would have had to defend themselves against German fighters, and at night Bomber Command attacked the ports in which the Germans were assembling invasion barges and equipment.
