hands on Half term educational fun

7 June 2012

"Today we visited the museum for the first time and experienced the delights on show and also the special activities that had been put on, mainly for the benefit of the children, for half term.

All of the RAF sports personnel were fab but a special mention please to the ski team who went out of their way to grab the imagination of my two children. We will definitely be back."

Fantastic

6 June 2012

"Two ladies working in the Bomber hanger made my 5 year old son's day today with their special attention whilst other attractions drew the visitors.

Along with the rest of the staff, the good food and the very professionally presented exhibits we were so impressed with the museum and are looking forward to our next visit."

Seats and Joysticks

11 May 2012

"This fine museum was a 'must visit' for me - a child living in Hendon during WWII, with my dad in the RAF. And I enjoyed it; thanks.
But the young ones were bored stiff.

ALL IT NEEDS IS A PILOT SEAT WITH A JOY STICK UNDER / ALONGSIDE EVERY EXHIBIT. THE YOUNG ONES WILL FLY AROUND THE SKY MAKING UP THEIR OWN NOISE AND ACTION.
Webmaster's Comment.

Thank you for your review and your comment. Ever mindful of our younger visitors we have created specifically for them a children's Gallery, Aeronauts, which has several exhibits such as you suggest where children can either site in a helicopter or replica aircraft and use a joystick to learn how aircraft fly.

We also have dotted around the Museum interactive kiosks which have located on them quizzes and games enabling children to interact with the aircraft that they are viewing.

Kind regards,

RAF Museum

Dad's 70th Birthday Tribute

2 May 2012

"Me, my sister, mum and dad visited the museum on 1 May 2012. Thank you to all of the team at the RAF Museum for making my Dad's 70th birthday so special. He has wanted to come to the museum since he was a young man but never got the chance so he was a bit emotional yesterday as we drove him secretly to his destination! We all enjoyed our day and it was great to know that the museum is well equipped for wheelchair users, as my mum is one. All the staff we met, from the ladies on reception to the helpful staff around the buildings and the polite gentlemen in the Wings Restaurant were all fantastic and made us feel very welcome! We loved our lunch at the restaurant and it was so refreshing to have fresh vegetables and home made food served rather than the frozen food you sometimes get served at museums!

Dad said that he will never forget his visit for as long as he lives, so I think we all made his birthday very special!

I'm now arranging to take my husband to your Midlands museum as he is so desperate to go but unfortunately couldn't make it yesterday!

Perfect Family Day Out!

12 April 2012

"Thank you for a brilliant visit - three generations of our family had a wonderful time. Our 4 year old daughter found the exhibits really exciting and it was very poignant for us to introduce her to some family history - her great grandpa was in the RAF in WWII and her great great great uncle was in the Flying Corps in WWI. Our visit couldn't have been better - great parking, lovely restaurant and free entry!!"

Great Day out!

10 April 2012

"Visited the museum for the first time and it did deliver a great day out for fantastic value £3.50 for parking on site.

The only negative was not enough indoor eating tables and we had to wait quite some time as people were just sitting at the tables whilst their children were off in the discovery centre and if you sit on any of the benches around the exhibits you get moved on by the staff. The area needs to be increased or have another hangar/building with picnic tables in.

I personally didn't like the Wessex Cafe in the middle of the exhibition and it is too small and messy - staff were too busy to keep the area clean.

But overall the exhibits were fantastic and we were all overwhelmed with how much their was too see.

I would throughly recommend the museum for a geat day out!"
